Why do American think that they are the BEST?

I am american and I like most other americans have lost faith in our government, the older people were brainwashed by our public school system, as were the rest who still think we are moveing in the right direction. But really more and more people that I know are rejecting the idea that americans have it better then the rest. I have stoped watching tv compleatly cause the news media is SO messed up and the dipiction that the tv gives of american life is TOTAL BS!
